ColorTyme
ColorTyme was a rent-to-own retail chain operating primarily in the United States. The company focused on providing consumer electronics, appliances, furniture, and other household goods under a rent-to-own agreement. This model allowed customers to obtain immediate use of these items by making regular payments over a specified period, after which they could gain ownership.
The business model involved weekly or monthly rental payments. A significant portion of the company's customer base consisted of individuals with limited access to traditional credit or those who preferred the flexibility of renting items without a long-term commitment. While offering access to desirable goods, rent-to-own arrangements typically resulted in a higher overall cost to the consumer compared to purchasing items outright or through traditional financing options.
ColorTyme was acquired by Rent-A-Center in 2014. The acquisition broadened Rent-A-Center's reach within the rent-to-own market and led to the integration of many ColorTyme locations under the Rent-A-Center brand. Following the acquisition, the ColorTyme brand gradually disappeared as stores were rebranded or consolidated.
