Collapsed Lung (band)
Collapsed Lung were a British alternative rock band, formed in Nottingham, England in the early 1990s. They are best known for their distinctive sound, which blended elements of alternative rock, hip-hop, and punk, often incorporating samples and politically charged lyrics.
The band's lineup consisted primarily of MC/vocalist Anthony "Ant" Ross and guitarist/programmer Steve "DJ Furious" Harcourt. Other members contributed at various times. Their breakthrough came with the single "Eat My Goal" in 1996, a football-themed anthem that gained significant radio play and media attention, coinciding with the Euro '96 football tournament. The track's catchy chorus and anti-establishment sentiment resonated with a wide audience.
Collapsed Lung released several albums, including "Tranquilizer" (1996) and "Cool Britannia" (1996). While they achieved moderate commercial success and a dedicated following, they never fully replicated the mainstream popularity of "Eat My Goal." Their music often tackled social and political issues, reflecting a critical perspective on British society and culture.
The band eventually disbanded in the late 1990s. After their split, members pursued other musical projects. Collapsed Lung are remembered for their unique sonic blend and their contribution to the alternative music scene of the mid-1990s.
