Audrey Rose (novel)
Audrey Rose is a 1975 psychological horror novel by American author Frank De Felitta. The story centers on Janice Templeton, a young American woman whose life is disrupted by Elliot Hoover, a man who believes that Janice's daughter, Ivy, is the reincarnation of his deceased daughter, Audrey Rose, who died in a car accident.
Hoover attempts to prove his theory and establish a connection with Ivy, causing distress to Janice and her husband, Bill. The novel explores themes of reincarnation, grief, the power of suggestion, and the psychological effects of trauma. As Ivy begins to experience disturbing nightmares and physical ailments that mirror the circumstances of Audrey Rose's death, Janice is forced to confront the possibility that Hoover's claims might be true.
The novel was a commercial success and was adapted into a film of the same name in 1977. The book is noted for its exploration of Eastern spiritual beliefs about reincarnation within a Western, psychological context, contributing to the popularization of reincarnation themes in horror fiction during the 1970s.
