Cirrhinus

Cirrhinus is a genus of ray-finned fish in the family Cyprinidae. These freshwater fish are native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. They are commonly known as mrigal carp or white carp, although these common names can also refer specifically to Cirrhinus mrigala.

Cirrhinus species are characterized by their elongated bodies, relatively small heads, and silvery coloration. They are primarily bottom feeders, consuming detritus, algae, and small invertebrates. They are often found in rivers, ponds, and lakes.
