Christian People's Party (Peru)

The Christian People's Party (Spanish: Partido Popular Cristiano, PPC) is a centre-right, Christian-democratic political party in Peru. It was founded in 1966 by Luis Bedoya Reyes, a prominent lawyer and politician who served as Mayor of Lima.

The PPC's ideology is based on Christian humanism and social market economics. The party advocates for a free market economy with a strong social safety net, emphasizing individual liberty, private property rights, and limited government intervention. It also emphasizes ethical conduct in public service and a strong commitment to democratic institutions. Historically, the PPC has been a socially conservative party, though its stances have evolved over time.

Throughout its history, the PPC has played a significant role in Peruvian politics. In the 1980s, it formed a coalition with Acción Popular (Popular Action) under President Fernando Belaúnde Terry. The party has also nominated presidential candidates in numerous elections, though it has never won the presidency outright. Luis Bedoya Reyes was a perennial presidential contender.

The PPC has held seats in the Congress of the Republic of Peru at various times. While its influence has fluctuated, it remains a recognized political force and often participates in political alliances and negotiations. The party's support base is generally found among middle-class and upper-class voters, particularly in urban areas.
