John Hamilton (Ontario politician)
John Hamilton (1830 – December 24, 1909) was a Canadian politician. He served as the mayor of Hamilton, Ontario, from 1877 to 1878.
Born in Hawkesbury, Upper Canada (now Ontario), Hamilton was involved in the wholesale dry goods business. He was also a member of the Hamilton Board of Trade.
He served as an alderman on the Hamilton City Council before being elected mayor. During his time as mayor, he focused on infrastructure improvements and fiscal responsibility.
Hamilton was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church.
He died in Hamilton in 1909 and is buried in the Hamilton Cemetery. His legacy primarily rests on his contributions to municipal governance in Hamilton during a period of growth and development for the city.
