Charles Lee (Hong Kong politician)
Charles Lee Yeh-kwong (李業廣, born 27 February 1937) is a Hong Kong businessman and politician. He is best known for his long service in various public roles, particularly within Hong Kong's financial and education sectors.
Lee held a number of prominent positions, often appointed by the Hong Kong Government. He served as a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, representing the Finance constituency, from 1988 to 1995. He was also a member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong from 2005 to 2012, advising the Chief Executive on policy matters.
Beyond politics, Lee has been deeply involved in the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx). He served as chairman of the HKEx from 2003 to 2006. His involvement in the exchange pre-dates this chairmanship; he played a significant role in its establishment and early development.
Lee's contributions extend to education. He served as the chairman of the Council of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) from 2009 to 2015. His tenure at HKU saw various developments and challenges within the university.
Throughout his career, Charles Lee has been a prominent figure in Hong Kong's business and political landscape, contributing significantly to its financial infrastructure and education system. He is generally considered a pro-establishment figure.
