A cardroom (also sometimes referred to as a poker room) is a dedicated space, often within a larger gambling establishment like a casino, specifically designed and equipped for playing card games, primarily poker. Unlike a general gambling floor where various types of games are offered, a cardroom focuses almost exclusively on different variations of poker and, less commonly, other card games like blackjack or pai gow poker.

Cardrooms typically feature multiple poker tables, comfortable seating, and a professional staff that includes dealers who manage the games and floor staff who oversee operations, settle disputes, and manage the waiting list for available seats. The room is often equipped with surveillance technology for security purposes.

The primary revenue model for cardrooms involves charging a fee, known as a "rake," on each pot played in a cash game or collecting entry fees for tournaments. The rake is usually a small percentage of the pot, capped at a certain amount. Tournament fees are used to cover the cost of running the tournament and to contribute to the prize pool.

Cardrooms are often regulated by local gaming authorities to ensure fair play and prevent illegal activities. Players in cardrooms are expected to adhere to specific rules of etiquette and gameplay, which are often posted within the room.
