Buffalo Girls (film)
Buffalo Girls is a 1995 American Western film directed by Rod Hardy and starring Anjelica Huston, Melanie Griffith, Gabrielle Anwar, and Reba McEntire. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Larry McMurtry.
The story is a fictionalized account of the lives of Calamity Jane (Anjelica Huston) and Annie Oakley (Reba McEntire), legendary figures of the American West, as they navigate the changing landscape and the end of the Wild West era. It follows their careers with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, their friendship, and their individual struggles to adapt to a more civilized society. Calamity Jane is portrayed as a complex character, grappling with alcoholism and her reputation, while Annie Oakley is depicted as a more traditionally feminine and successful sharpshooter. The film explores themes of fame, identity, and the loss of the frontier spirit. The relationship between Calamity Jane and Dora DuFran (Melanie Griffith) is also a significant part of the narrative.
