Brian Murphy (footballer, born 1983)

Brian Murphy (born 7 May 1983) is an Irish former professional footballer. A versatile defender, he primarily played as a centre-back, but could also operate as a full-back.

Murphy began his professional career with Manchester City, although he did not make a first-team appearance for the club. He then moved to Swansea City in 2003, where he became a regular and a key player for the Swans, featuring prominently in their rise from League Two to the Championship.

Following a successful spell at Swansea, Murphy joined Queens Park Rangers in 2006. He later played for Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, and Portsmouth.

In 2014, he returned to Ireland and signed with Bohemians in the League of Ireland Premier Division. He subsequently played for Waterford before retiring.
