Bram Roth

Bram Roth is a Dutch computer programmer best known as the original author and long-time maintainer of the Vim text editor. He began developing Vim in 1991 as an improved version of the Stevie editor for the Amiga.

Roth's work on Vim involved significant contributions to its features, functionality, and performance. He carefully guided its development, incorporating features suggested by the user community and ensuring its cross-platform compatibility. Vim grew to become one of the most popular and powerful text editors, particularly favored by programmers and system administrators.

In 2024, Bram Roth transitioned the lead maintainer role of Vim to Christian Brabandt. This marked a significant shift in the project's leadership after more than three decades under Roth's guidance. Roth remains involved in the project.
