Ed Jucker

Ed Jucker (1916-2002) was an American college basketball coach and athletics administrator. He is most notable for leading the University of Cincinnati Bearcats to consecutive NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championships in 1961 and 1962.

Jucker, born Edwin Jucker in Chicago, Illinois, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he began his coaching career. He became the head basketball coach at Cincinnati in 1960, succeeding George Smith. In his five seasons (1960-1965), Jucker compiled a record of 113-28, achieving an impressive winning percentage of .801. Beyond the two national championships, Cincinnati also reached the Final Four in 1963, finishing third.

Jucker was known for his calm demeanor and strategic coaching. He instilled discipline and a strong team ethic within his players. Following his successful coaching stint, Jucker transitioned into athletic administration. He served as the athletic director at Cincinnati from 1965 to 1977. He later held a similar role at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Jucker was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame. His legacy as a championship-winning coach and respected leader remains significant in the history of Cincinnati Bearcats basketball. His contributions extended beyond the court through his administrative roles in collegiate athletics.
