Bolimów
Bolimów is a town in Skierniewice County, Łódź Voivodeship, in central Poland. It is the seat of the Gmina Bolimów. As of 2004, it had a population of 1,500.
Bolimów is located approximately 14 kilometers north of Skierniewice and 58 kilometers northeast of Łódź.
Historically, Bolimów is known for the Battle of Bolimów, which took place on January 31, 1915, during World War I. It was the first major battle on the Eastern Front where poison gas (specifically xylyl bromide) was used, although with limited effectiveness due to the cold weather. The battle resulted in heavy casualties on both the German and Russian sides.
The town's history dates back centuries, with records indicating its existence as a settlement in the medieval period. It has experienced various periods of growth and decline, influenced by its location and historical events affecting the region.
