Boisselot
Boisselot was a French piano manufacturing company founded in Montpellier in 1793 by Jean-Louis Boisselot. The company remained in family ownership for several generations, producing pianos known for their innovative designs and quality craftsmanship. Notable innovations included the pedal tone mechanism (allowing sustained bass notes) and the use of a single-piece cast iron frame, predating similar developments by other piano manufacturers. Boisselot pianos were favored by composers such as Franz Liszt, who promoted the brand. The factory eventually moved to Marseille and closed in the early 20th century. Today, original Boisselot pianos are sought after by collectors and are occasionally restored for performance. The name "Boisselot" is also associated with a particular, distinctive tone quality described by some as clear and powerful.
