Typhoon Neoguri (2008)

Typhoon Neoguri, designated as Tropical Storm 0813 by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) and as Typhoon Neoguri by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), was a moderately strong typhoon that affected parts of Japan and South Korea in December 2008. The name "Neoguri" comes from the Korean word for raccoon dog.

Neoguri formed on December 22, 2008, in the Western Pacific Ocean, east of the Philippines. It initially tracked westward, slowly intensifying. The storm gradually intensified into a typhoon, reaching its peak intensity on December 25, 2008, with maximum sustained winds estimated at 150 km/h (90 mph) near the center.

After reaching its peak, Neoguri began to weaken as it moved northward towards Japan. The typhoon made landfall on the Japanese island of Kyushu on December 27, 2008, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to the region. It continued to track northeastward, weakening further as it moved across Japan.

Neoguri eventually transitioned into an extratropical cyclone on December 28, 2008, over the Sea of Japan. The remnants of the storm continued to move northeastward, eventually dissipating over the northern Pacific Ocean.

While Neoguri did cause some damage and disruption in Japan and South Korea, the overall impact was relatively limited. There were reports of flooding, landslides, and power outages in affected areas. No fatalities were directly attributed to the typhoon. However, transportation services were disrupted, and some businesses were temporarily closed. Damage assessments indicated primarily minor structural damage and agricultural losses.
