Bloody Sunday (film)

Bloody Sunday is a 2002 British-Irish film written and directed by Paul Greengrass. The film is a dramatization of the events of "Bloody Sunday," 30 January 1972, in Derry, Northern Ireland, when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a peaceful protest march against internment without trial. Thirteen people died on the day, and another died later from his injuries.

The film is notable for its realistic and docudrama style, employing hand-held cameras and a mostly unknown cast to create a sense of immediacy and authenticity. It attempts to portray the events from multiple perspectives, including those of Ivan Cooper, a Member of Parliament and organizer of the march, and various British soldiers and civilians who were present.

Bloody Sunday won the Golden Bear at the 52nd Berlin International Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2002. The film has been praised for its unflinching portrayal of the events and its contribution to a deeper understanding of the conflict in Northern Ireland.
