Liverpool Everton (UK Parliament constituency)
The Liverpool Everton constituency was a parliamentary constituency in the city of Liverpool, England. It existed from 1885 to 1950. It was created by the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885 and abolished for the 1950 general election.
Historically, the constituency covered a significant portion of the Everton district of Liverpool. The area was known for its working-class population, and the constituency tended to favour representation from the Labour Party and its predecessors after the First World War. Prior to that, it had seen representation from both the Conservative and Liberal parties.
Notable Members of Parliament for Liverpool Everton included:
- Edward Whitley (Conservative, 1885-1892)
- Houldsworth, Sir William Henry (Conservative, 1892-1906)
- Thomas Kelly (Labour, 1922-1929)
- Derbyshire, Harold (Labour, 1945-1950)
Upon its abolition in 1950, the area covered by the Liverpool Everton constituency was largely incorporated into the Liverpool Kirkdale constituency. The Everton area continues to be a distinct locality within the city of Liverpool, though no longer represented by a constituency bearing its exact name. The "Everton" name is, of course, also closely associated with Everton Football Club, though the club's ground is not within the boundaries that were historically defined for the constituency.
