Blockhead (music producer)

Blockhead, born Anthony Simon, is an American hip-hop producer and DJ based in New York City. He is primarily known for his instrumental hip-hop compositions, characterized by heavily sample-based beats often incorporating elements of jazz, funk, soul, and psychedelic music.

Blockhead's career began in the late 1990s, contributing production work for various underground hip-hop artists. He gained wider recognition in the early 2000s with the release of his solo albums, notably Music by Cavelight (2004), Downtown Science (2005), and Uncle Tony's Coloring Book (2007). His music is typically released through the Ninja Tune record label.

In addition to his solo work, Blockhead is recognized for his long-standing collaboration with rapper Aesop Rock. He has produced numerous tracks for Aesop Rock’s albums and EPs, contributing significantly to Aesop Rock’s signature sound.

Blockhead's production style is notable for its intricate layering of samples, creating a densely textured and often atmospheric soundscape.
