Bill Moriarty (baseball)
William Joseph "Bill" Moriarty (born April 29, 1887 in Chicago, Illinois; died November 20, 1962 in Alameda, California) was a professional baseball player who played shortstop in Major League Baseball from 1909 to 1921. He played for the Detroit Tigers (1909-1912), the New York Yankees (1913-1915), the Boston Braves (1915-1916), and the Chicago White Sox (1918-1921).
Moriarty primarily played shortstop but occasionally filled in at other infield positions. He was known more for his fielding prowess than his batting. His career batting average was .235.
Moriarty was a member of the 1919 Chicago White Sox team, infamous for the "Black Sox Scandal." While not implicated in the fixing of the 1919 World Series, his association with the team affected his later career. He continued to play for the White Sox for two more seasons after the scandal broke.
After his playing career ended, Moriarty worked as a baseball scout.
