Bill Hayes (baseball)

Bill Hayes (born November 2, 1957) is an American former professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs (1980-1981, 1983-1984), Philadelphia Phillies (1985), and California Angels (1987-1988).

Hayes was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 21st round of the 1979 MLB draft out of Indiana State University. He was known primarily as a defensive catcher and backup, rarely seeing significant playing time. His best offensive season came in 1987 with the California Angels, where he hit .253 in 54 games.

After his playing career, Hayes has worked as a coach and instructor in baseball.
