Białystok Voivodeship (1975–1998)

The Białystok Voivodeship was one of the 49 voivodeships (provinces) of Poland that existed from 1975 to 1998. It was created as a result of the administrative reform of 1975, which abolished the larger voivodeships in favor of smaller units. The capital city of the Białystok Voivodeship was Białystok.

The voivodeship covered a portion of northeastern Poland, including significant areas of the Podlaskie Plain. Its boundaries differed significantly from the present-day Podlaskie Voivodeship, which was established in 1999.

During its existence, the Białystok Voivodeship was primarily an agricultural region, with some industry concentrated in and around the city of Białystok. Significant areas were covered by forests and wetlands, including parts of the Białowieża Forest.

In 1999, as part of another major administrative reform, the Białystok Voivodeship was abolished and incorporated into the newly created Podlaskie Voivodeship. The boundaries of the new voivodeship also included areas that had belonged to the former Łomża and Suwałki Voivodeships.
