Ball hog
In basketball, a "ball hog" is a player who dominates possession of the ball, often to the detriment of their team's offense. A ball hog typically dribbles excessively, shoots frequently (often with low efficiency), and passes infrequently, even when teammates are in better scoring positions. The term carries a negative connotation, implying selfishness and a lack of teamwork. While confident and skilled players might sometimes be perceived as ball hogs, the label generally applies to those whose ball dominance actively hinders the team's overall performance and flow. The perception of whether a player is a ball hog can be subjective and influenced by factors such as team dynamics, coaching strategy, and the player's scoring efficiency. A player viewed as a ball hog on one team might be considered a crucial scorer on another.
