Awei (Vanuatu)

Awei is a small, uninhabited island located in the Torba Province of Vanuatu, in Melanesia. It forms part of the Banks Islands archipelago, situated to the north of Gaua and east of Vanua Lava. Awei is characterized by its relatively low elevation and dense vegetation. Its primary significance lies in its ecological role as a seabird nesting site. The island has little to no recorded permanent human habitation, and its remote location contributes to its preserved natural state. Surveys of flora and fauna have been conducted to assess biodiversity and conservation needs within the Banks Islands, including Awei.
