Assignee (horse)
Assignee was an American Thoroughbred racehorse foaled in 1972. Bred and owned by Meadow Stable, he was trained by Lucien Laurin. His name likely refers to the legal term "assignee," suggesting someone to whom rights or property are transferred.
Assignee is primarily remembered for his performances as a two-year-old in 1974. He won several important races, including the Cowdin Stakes and the Champagne Stakes. He was considered a leading contender for the 1975 Triple Crown based on his juvenile form.
However, Assignee's three-year-old season was marred by injury. While he did race, he failed to recapture his earlier brilliance. His most notable accomplishment that year was a second-place finish in the Wood Memorial Stakes. He did not participate in any of the Triple Crown races.
Following his racing career, Assignee was retired to stud. His progeny had limited success on the racetrack.
