Arthur Hawes (priest)

Arthur Hawes (1860 – 1941) was an Anglican priest and author. He served as the Vicar of St. Paul's, Kilburn, London, from 1900 to 1936. Hawes was known for his High Church leanings and his prolific writing on theological and devotional topics.

Hawes was educated at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, and ordained in 1884. Before Kilburn, he held curacies in various parishes. His ministry at St. Paul's saw the parish involved in numerous social outreach programs.

His published works include commentaries on scripture, studies of the sacraments, and collections of sermons. He was considered a gifted preacher and his writings reflect his pastoral approach to theology. He retired to Worthing, Sussex, where he continued to write until his death.

Specific details about his theological positions and influence beyond his parish remain somewhat limited in readily accessible sources.
