Ards F.C.
Ards Football Club, commonly known as Ards, is a Northern Irish intermediate football club playing in the NIFL Premier Intermediate League, the third tier of Northern Irish football. The club is based in Newtownards, County Down.
Founded in 1900, Ards F.C. is one of the oldest football clubs in Northern Ireland. They play their home matches at the Bangor Fuels Arena, also known as the Ards Showgrounds, which they share with Bangor F.C.
Ards' traditional colours are red and blue. The club has won the Irish Cup on four occasions (1927, 1952, 1969, and 1994) and the Irish League title once in 1957–58.
The club has a long-standing rivalry with Bangor F.C., a local derby known as the "Ards Peninsula Derby" or the "North Down Derby."
Notable former players include Billy Gillespie, a prominent Irish international footballer of the early 20th century, and Tommy Heron, who also played for Celtic.
Ards F.C. has experienced periods of success and decline throughout its history. In recent years, the club has aimed to achieve promotion back to the NIFL Premiership. The club is run by a board of directors and supported by a loyal fanbase.
