Aracus (navarch)
Aracus was a navarch (ναύαρχος, nauarchos), or admiral, of the Spartan fleet during the Peloponnesian War. He served as nauarchos in 413 BC.
While in command, Aracus was responsible for escorting reinforcements and supplies to the Spartan fleet operating in Sicily. His arrival was crucial in sustaining the Spartan efforts in the siege of Syracuse.
Aracus is primarily known for his role in reinforcing the Spartan position during the Sicilian Expedition. He is less well-documented than some other Spartan naval commanders of the era, and details of his other activities and later life are scarce. He held the position of nauarchos for one year, as was the Spartan custom, before being replaced.
