Apparat (musician)
Apparat is the stage name of Sascha Ring, a German electronic musician. He is known for his diverse sound, which blends elements of IDM, techno, ambient, and pop music.
Ring began his musical career in the late 1990s, initially focusing on dancefloor-oriented techno. He gradually shifted towards a more experimental and melodic sound. He founded the Shitkatapult record label in 1997 with Marco Haas (T.Raumschmiere).
Apparat has released several solo albums, including Multifunktionsebene (2001), Duplex (2003), Silizium (2005), Walls (2007), The Devil's Walk (2011), and Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre) (2013), a score based on Tolstoy's War and Peace. His most recent album, LP5, was released in 2019.
In addition to his solo work, Ring is also a member of the electronic music supergroup Moderat, alongside Modeselektor (Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary). Moderat has released three albums: Moderat (2009), II (2013), and III (2016), and MORE D4TA (2022). Their music is characterized by a blend of Apparat's melodic sensibilities and Modeselektor's raw, bass-heavy sound.
Apparat has also collaborated with numerous other artists, including Ellen Allien and Anja Schneider. He has composed music for theatre productions and film scores, further demonstrating his versatility as a musician. His work often incorporates introspective themes and explores complex emotional landscapes. He currently resides in Berlin.
