Anna Wing

Anna Wing (30 October 1914 – 7 July 2013) was a British actress best known for her role as Lou Beale in the BBC soap opera EastEnders.

Wing trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Her career spanned several decades, encompassing theatre, film, and television. Before EastEnders, she appeared in numerous television dramas and series, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Her portrayal of Lou Beale, one of the original characters in EastEnders, made her a household name. Lou Beale was a matriarchal figure known for her strong opinions and traditional values. Wing played the role from the show's inception in 1985 until 1988 when her character was killed off.

After leaving EastEnders, Wing continued to act in various roles. She also became involved in spiritual and environmental causes. She was a practicing Buddhist and an active member of several environmental organizations.

Anna Wing died in London on 7 July 2013 at the age of 98. Her contribution to British television, particularly her memorable portrayal of Lou Beale, cemented her place in television history.
