Amezepine
Amezepine is an iminodibenzyl derivative and a tricyclic antidepressant. It is closely related in structure to carbamazepine, an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer. Amezepine was investigated for potential use as an antidepressant, but was ultimately not widely marketed or adopted for clinical use. Information regarding its efficacy, safety profile, and specific pharmacological properties is relatively scarce compared to more commonly prescribed antidepressants. Its mechanism of action is believed to involve the reuptake inhibition of norepinephrine and serotonin, similar to other tricyclic antidepressants, although the specific affinities and potencies at various receptors have not been extensively characterized. The limited clinical experience with amezepine means that robust data on its side effect profile and potential drug interactions are not readily available. While its structure bears resemblance to carbamazepine, it should not be assumed to share the same therapeutic effects or risks without supporting clinical evidence.
