American Dreamer (2018 film)
American Dreamer is a 2018 American comedy-drama film directed by Derrick Borte and written by Jonathan Baker and Steven Schrager, based on the 2010 play The Zealot by Jonathan Marc Sherman.
The film stars Jim Gaffigan as Cam, a struggling economics professor who becomes obsessed with buying a dilapidated mansion in a desperate attempt to achieve the American Dream. Robbie Jones, Isabel Arraiza, Brian F. O’Byrne, and Tammy Blanchard also star. The story follows Cam's increasing entanglement with the eccentric elderly owner of the house, Astrid, played by Carol Kane.
American Dreamer explores themes of ambition, economic desperation, and the distorted pursuit of happiness within the context of the contemporary American experience.
