Alpha Tower

Alpha Tower is a Grade I listed building in Birmingham, England. Completed in 1973, it is a prominent example of Brutalist architecture and stands as one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Designed by George Marsh of Richard Seifert & Partners, it was originally known as the ATV Tower, housing the headquarters and studios of Associated Television (ATV) until 1982.

The tower is primarily constructed of concrete, with a distinctive vertical emphasis and projecting bays. Its 28 stories rise to a height of approximately 100 metres (328 feet). The design includes a rooftop plant room and a prominent mast.

Over the years, the building has undergone several changes in ownership and usage. Following ATV's departure, it was renamed Central House and subsequently Alpha Tower. While initially an office building, it has since been converted to include residential apartments.

Alpha Tower's architectural significance is widely acknowledged. Its listing status reflects its importance as a key example of post-war architecture and its contribution to Birmingham's urban landscape. Despite varying public opinions on Brutalist design, Alpha Tower remains a notable and enduring feature of the city skyline.
