Albatros (1912 automobile)
The Albatros was a German automobile manufactured in 1912 by the Albatros Flugzeugwerke GmbH, better known for their aircraft production. The company, based in Berlin-Johannisthal, briefly ventured into automobile manufacturing with a single model year.
The Albatros automobile was a large, luxurious touring car intended for the high-end market. It was powered by a substantial four-cylinder engine, although precise technical specifications (such as horsepower and displacement) are scarce and often conflicting in available historical sources. The car was characterized by its robust build quality and emphasis on passenger comfort.
Production was short-lived and limited. Albatros Flugzeugwerke focused primarily on aircraft production, particularly during the build-up to World War I, and the automobile division was quickly discontinued. Surviving examples of the 1912 Albatros are extremely rare, and detailed historical information is difficult to obtain due to the company's primary focus on aviation. The venture into automobile production is considered a relatively minor and often overlooked aspect of the Albatros Flugzeugwerke's history.
