Chilanzar

Chilanzar is a neighborhood (or mahalla) located in the Chilanzar District of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It is one of the older and more established residential areas of the city. Historically, Chilanzar was one of the first large-scale planned residential developments built in Tashkent during the Soviet era, beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It was designed to accommodate the city's rapidly growing population.

The area is characterized by its grid-like street layout and predominantly Soviet-style apartment buildings, often referred to as "Khrushchyovkas" or "Brezhnevkas," named after the Soviet leaders under whose tenures they were constructed. While these buildings were originally intended as temporary housing, they remain a significant feature of Chilanzar and other similar neighborhoods across the former Soviet Union.

Over time, Chilanzar has developed its own distinct character and amenities. It features numerous bazaars, parks, schools, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure. The neighborhood is well-connected to other parts of Tashkent through the Tashkent Metro, with several stations located within or near its boundaries. Significant landmarks include the Chilanzar market, known for its wide variety of goods and foodstuffs, and various cultural centers. Modern renovations and new construction are gradually altering the landscape, but the original Soviet-era planning remains largely evident. Chilanzar is a densely populated area reflecting a mix of cultures and ethnicities common to Uzbekistan.
