Frown (band)
Frown is a German funeral doom metal band formed in 1993 by mastermind Markus Stock (also known for his work with Empyrium and The Vision Bleak). Frown is primarily a solo project, with Stock handling the majority of the instrumentation and vocals.
The band is known for its extremely slow tempo, heavy guitar riffs, and melancholic atmosphere. Lyrically, Frown explores themes of death, despair, isolation, and existential dread. Stock's vocals typically consist of deep, guttural growls, further adding to the somber and oppressive feel of the music.
Frown's discography includes several full-length albums, EPs, and demos, all characterized by their lengthy song structures and overall bleakness. Notable releases include Of Graves and Worms (1999), The Days Close Here (2004), and Funeral Dawn (2010). The band has a dedicated following within the funeral doom metal scene due to its consistently crushing and emotionally resonant sound. The project has been inactive for many years, with the last full length album released in 2010.
