Al Rex
Al Rex was the stage name of Albert Piccirilli (August 13, 1925 – May 24, 2020), an American upright bassist and singer. He is best known for his work with Bill Haley & His Comets during their early rock and roll period, playing on many of their most famous recordings, including "Rock Around the Clock," "Shake, Rattle and Roll," and "See You Later, Alligator."
After leaving the Comets, Rex pursued a solo career, focusing on a variety of musical styles including country, rockabilly, and gospel. He also continued to perform with various rock and roll revival bands.
Rex's distinctive slap bass playing was a significant element of the early rock and roll sound and contributed to the Comets' energetic performances. His contributions to the genre have been recognized by inclusion in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
