Akella

Akella is the name of the leader of the Seeonee wolf pack in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book stories. He is a large and powerful Indian wolf, responsible for accepting Mowgli, the "man-cub," into the pack.

Akella is portrayed as a wise, strong, and fair leader. He is initially the one who supports Mowgli's inclusion when the jackal Tabaqui stirs up opposition and the tiger Shere Khan threatens the pack. Akella's vote is crucial for Mowgli's acceptance.

Throughout the stories, Akella acts as a mentor and protector to Mowgli, guiding him in the ways of the jungle. He is highly respected by the other wolves, though his authority begins to wane as he ages.

In later stories, Akella misses his kill and, according to the Law of the Jungle, must relinquish his leadership. This event forces Mowgli to make a difficult decision to save Akella's life and ultimately leave the pack.

Akella symbolizes leadership, wisdom, and the struggle of maintaining power as one ages. He is a key figure in Mowgli's development and a powerful representation of the Law of the Jungle.
