Airdrie and Shotts (Scottish Parliament constituency)

Airdrie and Shotts is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is one of nine constituencies within the Central Scotland electoral region.

The constituency was created in 2011, largely replacing the former Airdrie and Coatbridge constituency. It covers the towns of Airdrie and Shotts in North Lanarkshire.

The seat has been held by the Scottish National Party (SNP) since its creation in 2011. Prior to 2011, the Airdrie and Coatbridge seat was a Labour stronghold. The current MSP is Neil Gray, elected in 2021.

The constituency boundaries are defined by the Boundaries Scotland. The area borders the constituencies of Coatbridge and Chryston, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, Falkirk East, Motherwell and Wishaw, and Uddingston and Bellshill.

The economy of the area is historically linked to heavy industry, particularly coal mining and steel production, though these industries have largely declined. The area now faces challenges related to unemployment and social deprivation.
