Air Accident Investigation Bureau (Mongolia)
The Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) of Mongolia is the government agency responsible for investigating civil aviation accidents and incidents within Mongolia. Its primary objective is to improve aviation safety by determining the causes and contributing factors of accidents and incidents, and issuing safety recommendations to prevent recurrence. The AAIB operates independently of other agencies such as the Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia, although it works in cooperation with them. The bureau's investigations are conducted to determine the circumstances of the accident or incident, analyze the available evidence (including wreckage, flight data recorders, cockpit voice recorders, and witness statements), and formulate findings and recommendations. These recommendations are directed to relevant parties, including aircraft manufacturers, operators, and regulatory authorities. The AAIB's reports are publicly available and contribute to the global body of knowledge on aviation safety. The AAIB is subject to international standards and best practices, often working in collaboration with other international investigation agencies when accidents involve foreign aircraft or operators.
