Ahrweiler (district)

Ahrweiler (German: Landkreis Ahrweiler) was a district (''Kreis'') in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It was located in the west of the state, bordering the Rhine and the Eifel mountains. The district's administrative seat was in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

The district was known for its picturesque scenery along the Ahr river valley, its vineyards producing Ahr wine, and its numerous spa towns. Popular tourist destinations within the district included Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Remagen, and Sinzig. The area also had a rich history, evident in its many castles and medieval towns.

Following the devastating 2021 Ahr flood, the district of Ahrweiler was significantly affected and underwent substantial reorganization. As a result, the district of Ahrweiler no longer exists in its former form. Its territory is now largely incorporated into the new district of Ahrweiler, which is a significantly altered administrative unit compared to its predecessor.
