Aero (mythology)

In Greek mythology, Aero (Ancient Greek: Ἀηρώ) is a name associated with multiple figures, generally minor characters. Due to limited and sometimes fragmented accounts, distinguishing between them can be challenging.

One Aero is mentioned as a daughter of Cepheus and mother of Aeropus by Ares. This Aero is most often linked to Macedonia, with Aeropus being a king of that region.

Another Aero appears in accounts relating to Crete. She is sometimes cited as the daughter of Cateus, and mother of Apemosyne by Althaemenes. Althaemenes, fearing a prophecy, fled from Crete, and the details surrounding Aero and Apemosyne are often intertwined with the traditions of Rhodes.
