Aeneas Chisholm (Bishop of Aberdeen)

Aeneas Chisholm (1836 – 1918) was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as the Bishop of Aberdeen from 1899 until his death in 1918.

Born on July 26, 1836, in Inverness, Scotland, Aeneas Chisholm was educated at Blairs College and later at the Scots College in Rome. He was ordained a priest in 1860. Prior to his episcopal appointment, he served in various parishes within the Diocese of Aberdeen.

Chisholm was appointed Bishop of Aberdeen on August 11, 1899, succeeding Bishop John MacDonald. He was consecrated on September 21, 1899. During his episcopate, he oversaw the administration of the diocese, including its parishes, schools, and religious institutions. He was also involved in the promotion of Catholic education and charitable works within the region.

Bishop Chisholm's tenure coincided with a period of growth and change within the Catholic Church in Scotland. He played a role in addressing the needs of the Catholic community in the northeast of Scotland. He died on January 13, 1918, in Aberdeen and was succeeded by George Bennett.
