AMC-16 (satellite)

AMC-16 is a geostationary communications satellite owned and operated by SES Americom (now SES). It was launched on December 17, 2004, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Proton-K/DM-2M rocket.

Positioned at 85° West longitude, AMC-16 primarily serves the North American market, providing television broadcast, data, and telecommunications services. Its Ku-band and Ka-band transponders are used to deliver high-definition television (HDTV) channels, video-on-demand (VOD), broadband internet access, and other services to cable operators, direct broadcast satellite (DBS) providers, and other businesses.

The satellite is based on the Lockheed Martin A2100AX satellite bus. It has a design life of approximately 15 years. Following its successful launch and commissioning, AMC-16 played a significant role in expanding the availability of HD programming and high-speed data services across North America. Over its operational lifespan, it has been a key component in the infrastructure supporting satellite-delivered entertainment and communication.
