7th Anti-Tank Regiment (New Zealand)

The 7th Anti-Tank Regiment was a territorial unit of the New Zealand Army during World War II. Formed in 1942, it was one of several anti-tank regiments created to provide mobile anti-tank defense for New Zealand's home forces in response to the perceived threat of a Japanese invasion.

The regiment's composition typically included several batteries, each equipped with anti-tank guns, such as the 2-pounder and later the 6-pounder. These batteries were strategically positioned to defend key areas of New Zealand.

The 7th Anti-Tank Regiment primarily served in a defensive role within New Zealand and did not see active combat overseas. Its primary function was training and maintaining readiness to repel any potential invasion. As the perceived threat diminished towards the end of the war, and with the deployment of New Zealand forces concentrated in the Pacific and Italy, the regiment, along with other home defense units, was gradually scaled down and eventually disbanded.

Following the war, the 7th Anti-Tank Regiment was not reactivated. The post-war restructuring of the New Zealand Army led to different approaches in providing anti-tank capabilities. Historical records related to the regiment can be found within the archives of the New Zealand Defence Force and the National Archives of New Zealand.
