2018 U.S. Open (golf)

The 2018 U.S. Open was the 118th edition of the U.S. Open Championship, one of the four major championships in professional golf. It was held from June 14–17, 2018, at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.

Brooks Koepka won the tournament, finishing at 1-over par, one stroke ahead of Tommy Fleetwood. It was Koepka's second consecutive U.S. Open victory, having won the 2017 edition at Erin Hills. He became the seventh player in the U.S. Open's history to win back-to-back titles.

The course setup at Shinnecock Hills was met with significant controversy throughout the week, particularly on Saturday, with many players and commentators deeming the course nearly unplayable due to high winds, firm fairways, and fast greens. Several scores in the 80s were recorded during the third round. The USGA admitted some mistakes were made in the setup, especially on Saturday.

Notable participants included Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson, although none were significant contenders. Mickelson sparked controversy when he intentionally violated Rule 14-5, hitting a moving ball on the 13th green during the third round, for which he received a two-stroke penalty.

The 2018 U.S. Open marked the fifth time the championship had been held at Shinnecock Hills, with previous editions taking place in 1896, 1986, 1995, and 2004.
