13th Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada), CEF

The 13th Battalion (Royal Highlanders of Canada), CEF was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War. It was authorized on September 10, 1914, and embarked for Great Britain on September 26, 1914. The battalion was raised and mobilized in Montreal, Quebec.

The 13th Battalion formed part of the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Division. Throughout the war, the battalion participated in many major battles and engagements on the Western Front, including the Second Battle of Ypres, the Battle of the Somme, the Battle of Vimy Ridge, the Battle of Passchendaele, and the Hundred Days Offensive.

The battalion was known as the "Royal Highlanders of Canada" and wore the kilt, identifying it with its affiliated militia unit in Montreal. The Royal Highlanders of Canada had a long history dating back to the mid-19th century.

The 13th Battalion was disbanded on August 30, 1920.

The perpetuation of the 13th Battalion was assigned to The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada.
