Șelimbăr

Șelimbăr is a commune located in Sibiu County, Transylvania, Romania. It lies immediately south-east of the city of Sibiu, effectively functioning as a suburb. The commune is known for its historical significance and rapid development in recent years.

History:

Șelimbăr is historically significant as the site of the Battle of Șelimbăr in 1599, a pivotal moment in Wallachian history. Michael the Brave, Prince of Wallachia, defeated the army of Andrew Báthory, Cardinal and Prince of Transylvania, paving the way for a brief union of the three Romanian principalities (Wallachia, Transylvania, and Moldavia). A monument commemorating the battle stands near the commune.
