Zehrental

Zehrental is a municipality located in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel district of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is situated approximately 15 kilometers southwest of Salzwedel. Zehrental was formed on January 1, 2011, through the merger of the formerly independent municipalities of Deutschhorst, Drösede, Jeggeleben, Mechau, and Winkelstedt. The local economy is primarily agricultural. The municipality's name is derived from the historical practice of a tenth (German: Zehnt) of the agricultural produce being paid as a tithe. Zehrental has a rural character with scattered settlements and open fields.
