Yu Yongbo

Yu Yongbo (simplified Chinese: 于永波; traditional Chinese: 于永波; pinyin: Yú Yǒngbō; born September 1931, died January 29, 2006) was a Chinese general and politician. He served as Director of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Political Department from 1992 to 2002 and was a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) during the same period. He also served as a member of the 14th and 15th Politburos of the Communist Party of China.

Yu was born in Jin County, Liaoning Province. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1948 and the People's Liberation Army in the same year. Throughout his career, he held various political and military positions, focusing primarily on political work within the PLA. Before becoming Director of the General Political Department, he served in various political commissar roles, including within the Nanjing Military Region.

As Director of the General Political Department, Yu Yongbo played a significant role in ideological and political education within the PLA, ensuring the military remained aligned with the policies and directives of the Communist Party. He emphasized the importance of political loyalty and discipline among PLA soldiers. He retired from his official positions in 2002.
