William Webbe (by 1499 – 1554)

William Webbe (born no later than 1499 – died 1554) was an English merchant, politician, and Lord Mayor of London.

Webbe's early life is not well-documented, but he is known to have been a successful merchant, trading primarily in cloth. He was a member of the Drapers' Company, one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London.

He rose through the ranks of civic administration, serving as an alderman and later as Sheriff of London. In 1553, he was elected Lord Mayor of London, serving his term during a turbulent period of religious and political change following the death of Edward VI and the brief reign of Lady Jane Grey. He was involved in proclaiming Mary Tudor as Queen.

His tenure as Lord Mayor was relatively brief, ending with his death in 1554. He is remembered for his contributions to the city's governance and his role during a critical period in English history.

He was married and had children, though details of his family life are limited in extant historical records. His will provides some insights into his wealth and possessions.
